The Smiles for Everyone Foundation (“SFE Foundation”), a non-profit public charity affiliated with Smile Brands Inc. (“Smile Brands”), is proud to announce the results for its charitable initiatives throughout 2018, in which more than $3 million worth of dental services were donated to communities in need across the U.S. and abroad. During the year, the organization hosted 21 free dental clinics (“Days of Giving”), an international outpost trip to Paraguay and 15 international outreaches in Ghana, Nicaragua, Thailand, Cambodia and Laos. In total, over 4,500 patients worldwide were able to receive care from dental professionals in Smile Brands’ network.
“Through the work of the Foundation, we are able to truly deliver on our promise of providing Smiles for Everyone,” says Smile Brands CEO, Steven C. Bilt. “Our impact in 2018 would not have been possible without the dedication and commitment of our Smile Brands staff and dental professionals.”
Days of Giving were held at Smile Brands affiliated offices in Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Washington. These events provide an opportunity for low-income and underinsured individuals to receive same-day services such as exams and x-rays, cleanings, fillings and extractions, all free of charge. SFE Foundation partners with local nonprofits for these events to identify individuals in need to receive these services. Nonprofits include homeless shelters, food pantries, veterans organizations, children’s groups and support service organizations for victims of domestic violence.
In July, Bilt lead a trip of fifteen Smile Brands affiliated dental professionals to Paraguay for a week-long service trip. On this trip, the team provided dental care and oral hygiene education to children and families at community centers and schools in the most impoverished areas surrounding the city of Asunción. During this trip, they also focused on establishing relationships and training dental professionals in the area in an effort to provide ongoing care in Paraguay throughout the year.
All initiatives spearheaded by the Foundation were supported by volunteers from Smile Brands’ network of offices. In 2018, nearly 1,000 dental professionals and support teams participated in the organization’s Days of Giving and international work.
“Giving back is a pillar of Smile Brands’ company culture,” says Bilt. “Watching our teams’ willingness to volunteer with the Foundation is inspiring. These opportunities, we feel, give a sense of connection and bring new meaning to the work we do.”
SFE Foundation was founded in 2011 by Bilt with the vision to support communities, both domestically and abroad, in ways only dental professionals can, by providing access to dental services. Since then, the nonprofit has delivered 19,000 smiles and donated over $14.5 million in dentistry.
